about the meeting

We meet every Wednesday night at 7:30 and we are done by 9.  We meet in conference room D.  Even if you’ve been to Maplegrove before, you may not know where conference room D is.  It’s all the way in the back of the building.  It’s easiest to use the rear entrance; there’s a path from the parking lot that leads right to the back entrance.  If you come in the front just ask at the front desk and they’ll point the way.  Please, be aware that meditation begins at early into the meeting so be on time otherwise you may disturb the meditation.

We open with a few readings followed by a 20 minute guided group meditation.  After meditation we have a period of sharing.  Visit the meeting materials page to see some of the meditations.

Many people who have good sobriety still find meditation to be a mysterious and difficult thing, but it is not.  There is misconception that meditation is about only about clearing your mind and achieving a dreamlike, semi-conscious state.  But, mindfulness meditation is actually intended to get in touch with what is happening in our minds and to bring us to a super-conscious state.

If you’re new to meditation have no fear.  Meditation can seem mysterious and challenging at first but remember, there is no right or wrong way to meditate.  We will guide you and you’ll have the chance to ask questions and share your experience.

If you’re a seasoned meditator feel free to bring your cushion, bench and your wisdom.  All meditation practices are welcome as long as they don’t interfere with others.

To learn more about meditation and mindfulness visit our Resources page.  There are plenty of things to read and places to visit to get you started.
